Welcome to ApnaGaon.in – a contributory blog about apna gaon, meaning our village in India (Hindi: अपना गाँव). Though the term literally means our village, in buddy parlance, it can connote as belonging to one common local geographic region – a place, locality, town, city, even a community with some common regional bondage. This buddy factor is even more prevalent among migrated or emigrated persons when they catch up on news from apna gaon or back home! Quick fact: More than 70% of India’s over 1 billion population lives in about 600,000 villages, as of 2001 census (Source: http://www.censusindia.gov.in/Census_Data_2001/India_at_glance/glance.aspx).
Everyone is invited. Anyone can become a contributor. You just need to send a simple request via our contact us page. We will communicate over phone/email with you and then provide you a user name and password and posting guidelines. You can then post about your gaon to the blog, through email or Atom publishing or XML-RPC facility. If you have an email enabled mobile phone, you could just post on the move. Sounds exciting! Well, contact us now! It’s free. You can also send news contribution without becoming registered user. Send the news using contact us page and select subject as “Add My Village News”. Enter “anon” in the name field, if you don’t want publicity of your actual name.
Exciting this is, but not for mischief mongers. We will only allow posts that have a feel good character – anything that is positive sounding, local achievements, developments, events, community efforts, progress reports etc. Scandalous, defamatory or accusatory posts will not be allowed. We are not and do not intend to be whistle blowers. We just wanna feel good!
